In 2023, after reading The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer, one of the first changes I made was turning off all notifications on my phone. The biggest game-changer? Disabling email notifications. Without them, I quickly realized how much they had been hijacking my attention—triggering a sense of urgency to clear them, not because I had something meaningful to respond to, but simply to remove the notification.
More recently, for Lent, I’ve committed to not checking my phone first thing in the morning. Instead, I start my day with reading and prayer. The difference has been incredible—I feel noticeably calmer, clear-headed and even more productive!
