Have you read Epictetus or Seneca? I’ve been reading Stoic philosophy for the past several years. Dovetails well with CBT, 12 -steps, Solution-Focused therapy. And a Positive Psychology orientation. (I imagine you have) Deb, retired LCSW

This is a great piece, thank you. From a physiological point of view, why do humans continue to carry their worries, whereas the gazelle or dog can return so quickly to living in the moment?

It's math. Way too many people don't understand math, statistics, etc. Combined with blind faith in the storytellers (aka the media), the results are disastrous.

This article does not alleviate anyone's fear of swimming in the ocean. The statistic's we actually need to compare in the first instance is our chance's of dying from the Flu (which we could get anytime) vs our chances of being killed by a shark "when we're actually swimming in the ocean!" Lets me honest, not many of us fear being killed by a shark at the office...
